To help and support those with dementia, and their carers, to make their own decisions regarding their care pathway.
To promote self esteem and awareness of the support available in the Community for dementia sufferers and their carers.
To promote and maintain social interaction and Living Well with Dementia.
Dementia illness like other memory problems, does not discriminate. it is not just the older population going "senile in their old age". People of any age, gender, race, colour or creed can be afflicted.
The Phoenix Group is a specialist charity, aiding research around dementia illness. We provide people with dementia, and their carers, with a special network where they can forget they have dementia and get on with a full and active life.
The Group is non clinical with a friendly atmosphere, that meets on a weekly basis. We operate in the local communities of North Warwickshire.
Where and When? We have two Clubs within the Group, one covers the Atherstone & Kingsbury areas and is held at Wood End Working Mens' Club on Tuesdays, the Nuneaton area club meets at Ambleside Community and Sports Club in Nuneaton also on Tuesdays. Both meet from 11.00am - 3.00pm.
Who can attend? We welcome all people, but please note that due to legislation and health and safety reasons we cannot accommodate people with dementia unless they are accompanied by a carer. This is because we are not professional health workers. However, if you are a carer and wish to, please feel free to attend without the person you care for. The clubs are for the carers as well as the people with dementia. The clubs are operationally and financially independent; we raise funds to finance social events and provide appropriate speakers to attend the groups from time to time.
Our current and past carers have a wealth of knowledge collectively through their own unique experience, coping with family, finances, support, future care needs and legal issues.
